The Pumas prepare their passport: this year they will travel 20 thousand kilometers to reach the World Cup in Australia 2027 better than ever
Argentina's rugby team, Los Pumas, will undertake extensive travel across the country and Europe in preparation for the 2027 World Cup.
Los Pumas, Argentina's national rugby team, are gearing up for a demanding travel schedule as they prepare for the upcoming World Cup in Australia in 2027. Starting in Buenos Aires as their point of reference, they will cover approximately 6,000 kilometers within Argentina early in the year, followed by an additional 15,000 kilometers during their tour in Europe in November. Such extensive travel is unusual even for international rugby standards, highlighting the unique challenges faced by teams from the Southern Hemisphere compared to their Northern counterparts.
The new tournament structure means that Southern Hemisphere teams like Los Pumas will be logging significantly more miles and hours in the air, potentially experiencing greater issues related to jet lag and travel fatigue. In contrast, Northern Hemisphere teams face fewer demanding travel schedules, which may lessen the impact of these travel-related difficulties.
The team's activities will commence in July, with Argentina hosting matches against three Northern Hemisphere teams. Their first match will be in Córdoba against Scotland, requiring a travel distance of nearly 700 kilometers, followed by a match in San Juan against Wales, adding another 520 kilometers to their journey. This rigorous itinerary is designed to prepare the Pumas thoroughly for the challenges they will face in the World Cup, ensuring they are in top form for the international stage.
