The Housing Management Association is concerned about the insurance company's unclear instructions โ apartment residents should never turn off the water supply
The Housing Management Association expressed concern over unclear guidance from an insurance company regarding water supply shutoff in apartment buildings, highlighting that many residents are unaware of the main shutoff valve's location.
A recent survey by Lรคhi-Tapiola, an insurance company in Finland, revealed that 25% of residents do not know the location of the main shutoff valve for their water supply, with the situation being worse for residents of apartment buildings. In fact, about 33% of apartment dwellers and nearly 50% of renters were unaware of where to find the valve, while approximately 90% of single-family home residents knew its location. This lack of awareness is particularly concerning given that insurance policies state that water supply must be turned off if a building is unoccupied for over a week, as failure to do so could lead to reduced insurance compensation for water damage.
