The first batch of IPS turns 100 years old... Special advice given to police officers

Former Director General of Police Harivallabh Mohanlal Joshi marks his 100th birthday as one of the last living members of the first batch of Indian Police Service officers.

Harivallabh Mohanlal Joshi, the former Director General of Police in Madhya Pradesh, celebrated his 100th birthday this year, making him possibly the last surviving member of the first batch of officers in the Indian Police Service (IPS), which was established in 1948. To commemorate this historic occasion, the Madhya Pradesh IPS Association hosted an elaborate and emotional ceremony at the Police Officers’ Mess in Bhopal. A particularly touching moment occurred when Kajal Singh, a probationary IPS officer from the 2024 batch, presented a bouquet to Joshi, highlighting the deep-rooted tradition and respect within the police force.

Current DGP Kailash Makwana praised Joshi's tenure, referring to it as an inspiring chapter in the history of Madhya Pradesh police. He emphasized Joshi's contributions to eradicating the problem of dacoity in the Chambal and Bundelkhand regions through well-planned campaigns that not only eliminated fearsome dacoits but also encouraged many to surrender. This led to significant development in those areas, telling a story of how leadership can forge positive change in society.

Despite reaching the milestone age of 100, Joshi maintains a positive outlook on life, embodying the belief that "work is worship." His continued dedication to his profession and the example he sets for younger officers reflect the enduring values of service and commitment that the IPS aims to uphold, ensuring that the legacy of the first batch of officers continues to inspire future generations in law enforcement.
