Liberia to Host National Fisheries Investment Conference 2026

Liberia will host the National Fisheries Investment Conference in March 2026 to discuss the country's fisheries potential and sustainability.

The Government of Liberia has officially announced the National Fisheries Investment Conference (NFIC) 2026, set for March 30 to 31, 2026. This initiative, led by the National Fisheries & Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA), aims to highlight Liberia's rich but underutilized fisheries sector. During a press briefing, NaFAA's Director General J. Cyrus Saygbe Sr. pointed out that while Liberia's biomass is estimated at 254,000 metric tons, the nation only manages to harvest about 53,000 metric tons annually, with a significant portion of its fisheries resources left untapped.

The conference is expected to focus on fostering sustainable practices in the fisheries sector, which is crucial for job creation and maintaining food security in Liberia. Saygbe’s comments underscore the challenges faced in fully capitalizing on the aquatic resources that could contribute to both local economies and environmental sustainability. The involvement of international vessels in the harvest also indicates the need for better management and policies to ensure that domestic fisheries are prioritized.

By providing a platform for stakeholders to exchange ideas and highlight opportunities for investment, NFIC 2026 represents an important step towards addressing these challenges. The conference aims to attract both local and international interest in Liberia's fisheries, which could lead to enhanced collaboration and investment to transform the nation's fishing industry into a more sustainable and robust sector.
