NHK News Bureau Employee Arrested on Charges of Non-Consensual Sexual Intercourse, Partially Denies Allegations of Threatening

A 50-year-old NHK news bureau employee has been arrested for alleged non-consensual sexual acts against a woman in Tokyo, with some denial of threatening behavior.

Kensuke Nakamoto, a 50-year-old employee of NHK's news bureau, was arrested by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police for allegations of non-consensual sexual intercourse with a woman in her twenties. The incident reportedly occurred on January 4 in a multi-tenant building in Shibuya, where Nakamoto is accused of engaging in lewd acts after threatening the victim by claiming to possess a dangerous item, while also holding her arm. The suspect partially denies the allegations, asserting that he did not threaten the woman or restrain her in such a manner.

According to police reports, the victim reported the incident to a nearby police station shortly after it occurred. Investigators have uncovered footage from security cameras indicating Nakamoto's movements before and after the alleged crime, showing him cycling around the vicinity of the building and later making his way to the NHK broadcasting center nearby. Furthermore, several other women have come forward with similar reports, suggesting a pattern of troubling behavior associated with Nakamoto.

In response to the arrest, NHK expressed deep regret, stating that they would verify the facts promptly and take appropriate action. Law enforcement authorities also discovered several indecent images from Nakamoto's smartphone, further complicating the investigation and raising serious concerns about his conduct and its implications for public trust in media institutions. This case underscores the growing issue of sexual misconduct within the workplace and its impact on both victims and the credibility of involved organizations.
