‘The Man Living with the King’ Surpasses 5 Million Viewers... Daily Audience Doubles
The film ‘The Man Living with the King’ has surpassed 5 million viewers in South Korea, showing a significant increase in daily attendance shortly after its release.
The historical film ‘The Man Living with the King’, depicting the final moments of King Danjong during the Joseon Dynasty, has surpassed 5 million viewers just 18 days after its release on the 4th of this month, according to the distributor Showbox. This milestone raises expectations for another blockbuster film reminiscent of ‘The Outlaws 4’, which had a successful run two years ago. The film’s narrative revolves around Danjong’s exile in Yeongwol, Gangwon province, where he spends his last days with the villagers, exploring themes of loss and resilience.
Since its release, the film has received favorable reviews, contributing to a rapid increase in audience numbers. The number of viewers surged from approximately 126,000 on its first Friday to 264,000 on the previous day, indicating a doubling of attendance in just two weeks. This remarkable growth highlights the film’s impact and the resounding interest it has generated among moviegoers, proving that historical dramas continue to captivate the South Korean audience.
Director Jang Hang-jun, who had experienced previous failures at the box office with films such as ‘Midnight Runners’ (2017) and ‘Rebound’ (2023), has finally achieved a significant success with ‘The Man Living with the King’. With prominent performances from actors Yoo Hae-jin as the village chief and Park Ji-hoon as King Danjong, the film has garnered praise for its strong performances and engaging storytelling. These factors combined may position it as a contender for becoming another major hit, as audiences eagerly await the potential emergence of another ‘ten million movie’ in the near future.
