Prime Minister Takaichi will visit Fukushima to attend a memorial ceremony marking the 15th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake.

On the 6th, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno announced during a press conference that Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi would be visiting Fukushima Prefecture on the 11th, which marks 15 years since the onset of the Great East Japan Earthquake. The memorial ceremony is organized by the prefecture to honor the victims of the disaster. In addition to Takaichi, Minister of Reconstruction Katsunobu Kaki will visit Iwate and Miyagi Prefectures on the same day to acknowledge their struggles as well.

In her message released on the 6th titled 'To the People of the Nation', Takaichi expressed her deep condolences, saying, "I cannot help but feel sorrow when thinking of those who lost their beloved family members, relatives, and friends." She continued to emphasize that she is keenly aware of the ongoing challenges faced by the people in the disaster-affected areas and reiterated the government's commitment to support their recovery efforts wholeheartedly.

This visit and the memorial ceremony are significant as they not only remember the tragic events of the earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan in 2011 but also highlight the ongoing recovery process and the government's dedication in addressing issues faced by the affected communities. It serves as a reminder of the necessity for long-term support and resilience as the affected regions continue to rebuild their lives and infrastructure.
