The Polish market attracts accident cars from abroad
Imports of used cars in Poland have decreased significantly, indicating a trend of declining private vehicle imports from abroad.
The private import of cars into Poland has seen a substantial decline, with statistics showing a nearly 10.6% drop in registrations of used personal and light commercial vehicles from abroad in February 2026 compared to the previous year. This reduction results in approximately 69,000 imports, marking the lowest level in three years. The total imports for 2025 also reflected a decrease, with 855,600 cars brought into Poland, which was 2.8% lower than 2024. Forecasts predict that imports will continue to decline in 2026, with estimations indicating about 840,000 cars will be imported.
Despite the overall decline in imports, the age of the vehicles being imported remains high, with more than half of the imported vehicles in 2025 being over a decade old, as reported by the Polish Automotive Industry Association. However, there are signs of a gradual improvement in the structure of private imports, evidenced by a notable 12% decrease in the oldest vehicles that negatively impacted total import figures. On the other hand, there has been a positive shift in imports of younger cars, which are two years old or less, experiencing a 14% increase. This change suggests that while the overall market for used car imports is contracting, there is a growing interest in newer, less risky vehicles compared to older models, which may affect the future landscape of the Polish automotive market.
