A tank truck transporting 50,000 liters of fuel caught fire while traveling along the BR-174 highway close to Presidente Figueiredo in the Amazonas state of Brazil. The incident occurred on Thursday, and fortunately, there were no victims. A video captured by a passing motorist shows thick black smoke billowing from the vehicle, which was slowly making its way along the highway at the time of the fire.
According to the Amazonas Military Fire Brigade, the fire began at kilometer 126 of the highway, stemming from overheating in the braking system that caused two tires to burst. Firefighters quickly responded to the emergency, isolating the area to manage and completely extinguish the blaze. They used 5,000 liters of water and 160 liters of Fire Fighting Foam Liquid (LGE) to combat the flames effectively.
This incident highlights the risks associated with transporting large quantities of flammable materials on public highways. The rapid response from emergency services prevented what could have been a more serious disaster, ensuring that the incident was contained without any injuries. Such occurrences urge stricter safety measures for vehicles carrying hazardous materials to avoid future incidents.
