In São Paulo, a new concert hall has opened its doors in Heliópolis, marking a significant cultural milestone as it is the first venue of its kind situated within a favela in Brazil. The Teatro Baccarelli, inaugurated late last year, boasts a capacity of 533 seats and features cutting-edge acoustics, making it suitable for a diverse range of performances from classical music and opera to contemporary shows including funk, rap, and trap. After a devastating fire in 1996 affected the Heliópolis community, he founded the Baccarelli Institute, which is now one of Brazil’s most respected organizations, providing music education to 1,650 students annually. Starting with just 36 children, the institute has successfully launched the Heliópolis Symphony Orchestra, showcasing the transformative power of music in marginalized communities.
