Corruption in the Russian Ministry of Defense. Laundering and stealing money for Putin's war

A high-ranking official in the Russian Ministry of Defense, Ruslan Calikov, has been arrested for corruption, marking a significant escalation in a crackdown on financial misconduct within the military sector.

Ruslan Calikov, the former First Deputy Minister of Defense in Russia, has been arrested amid serious corruption allegations. This is part of a larger pattern of arrests, with Calikov being the fourth deputy to former Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu to face legal issues since 2024. The Russian Investigative Committee has launched a criminal case against Calikov that includes charges of forming a criminal organization, money laundering, and bribery. In total, he faces 12 counts of embezzlement and money laundering, along with two corruption-related charges. These actions are said to have occurred between 2017 and 2024, during which Calikov was actively working within the Ministry of Defense.
