The TAS upheld the sanction in the Malaysia case: Machuca and two other Argentine footballers will not be able to play for another eight months

The Court of Arbitration for Sport confirmed sanctions against three Argentine footballers involved in a document forgery case related to their nationalization to play for Malaysia.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has upheld the sanctions against seven footballers involved in the so-called 'Malaysia case', which revolves around document forgery in the nationalization process to represent Malaysia in international football. Among those sanctioned are three Argentine players: Facundo Garcés, Rodrigo Holgado, and Imanol Machuca, who currently plays for Vélez. These players will be unable to participate in official matches for a total of twelve months.

The CAS's decision confirmed the original twelve-month suspension for the players; however, there was a crucial modification allowing them to resume training with their respective teams. This modification may influence the players' physical conditioning and future prospects, as they will have the opportunity to stay in shape and potentially return to competitive form once their suspensions are completed.

This ruling has implications not only for the players and their clubs but also raises questions regarding the accountability and regulation of player eligibility in international football. The case highlights the issues surrounding document authenticity in sports, as well as the stringent measures taken by governing bodies to uphold the integrity of football on a global scale.
