Rescuers Help Surveyors Who Got Lost in Kretinga Forest – One Man Suffered Severe Frostbite
Three surveyors lost in a forest in Kretinga were rescued by firefighters after one man suffered severe frostbite.
On March 5, around 12:33 PM, a man called emergency services to report that he was lost in a forest in the Kretinga region. He complained of frostbitten feet and was unable to move, but he could not provide an exact location. It later emerged that three surveyors had become disoriented while conducting measurements in the area, and one of them was in significant distress due to the cold.
Firefighters were notified that assistance was needed in the forest near the Baubliai–Žutautai road because one man had frostbite and could not walk. Upon contacting the caller, firefighters learned that he could not specify his whereabouts but referred to a clearing where cars were parked as a landmark. Firefighters located this clearing and activated their siren in hopes that the lost individual would hear it. Fortunately, the man on the phone was able to hear the siren, which helped rescuers pinpoint their position.
Ultimately, the three men, who were identified as surveyors, were found in the forest, illustrating the dangers faced by individuals working in isolated locations, especially during harsh weather conditions. This incident emphasizes the importance of proper navigation tools and communication when working in outdoor environments under unforgiving conditions.
