From March 9, the allowed driving speed will be 30 km/h in several places in Riga
A new speed limit of 30 km/h will be implemented in various areas of Riga starting March 9 to enhance safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
Starting from March 9, several areas in Riga will introduce a 30 km/h speed limit, particularly in the Ķīpsala neighborhood, to address public safety concerns. This decision is rooted in the narrow street profiles that often lead to hazardous conditions, especially given the significant flow of cyclists and pedestrians in the area. Existing residential zones will remain unaffected, aiding in maintaining a safe environment for local residents.
In addition to the Ķīpsala neighborhood, the speed limit will also be reduced on specific portions of Rājumsila Street between Krustpils and Dzirkaļu Streets where pedestrian sidewalks are absent. Moreover, the new limit will apply near pedestrian crossings and park areas along Ēbeļmuižas Street, specifically between Valdeķu and Līvciema Streets. These measures aim not only to limit vehicular speeds but also to improve visibility for pedestrians at crossing points, thereby fostering safer traffic conditions in these crucial locations.
Furthermore, similar speed limit regulations will be enforced in Imanta, particularly on Skandu Street from Kurzemes prospekta 3B to Skandu Street 14, where the sidewalk ends. The introduction of these limitations reflects a growing commitment by city authorities to prioritize pedestrian and cyclist safety in urban planning, ensuring that transport policies adapt to the needs of all road users in Riga.
