The European Parliament's Conference of Presidents has approved a plenary discussion focused on the Tempi tragedy and railway safety, coinciding with the three-year anniversary of the tragic event that occurred in Tempi, Greece. This initiative was spearheaded by the president of the LEFT party, Kostas Arvanitis, along with the SYRIZA-PS delegation, demonstrating significant political engagement on the issue. The proposal received overwhelming support and will address the pertinent issues surrounding railway safety in the European Union.

The discussion, scheduled for the morning of March 12 in Strasbourg, will be attended by European Transport Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas. It aims to reflect on the lessons learned from previous railway accidents, including the tragic incident in Adamuz, while also revisiting the implications of the Tempi tragedy that has lingered in public memory. The session represents an important step in addressing transportation safety within the EU, especially as it pertains to railways, which remain a critical component of the continent's transportation infrastructure.
