Gestamp, a company located in Luleå, Sweden, which produces steel components for the automotive sector, has announced its decision to close operations. According to Mats Hedberg from the communications agency Hallvarsson & Halvarsson, the shutdown is a result of a weak automotive market in Europe. This decision is significant as it impacts 195 employees directly, leading to a reassessment of job security in the region.

This closure will be carried out in a gradual manner, with negotiations already commenced with the relevant trade unions. The company states that this approach aims to facilitate a smoother transition for the employees affected by the downsizing. Furthermore, Gestamp has indicated plans to complete the closure process by 2027, which provides a timeline for both the employees and the local community to adjust to the upcoming changes.
