Police Strikes Against Stolen Car Parts Network

Lithuanian authorities have conducted a significant operation to dismantle a network involved in the theft of car parts across various cities.

In a large-scale international operation named "SCRAPYARD," 62 police officials from crime units in Vilnius, Kaunas, Panevezys, Marijampole, and Siauliai participated, alongside cooperation from Lithuanian diplomatic authorities in the UK and several Interpol officials from Germany, Sweden, and the UK. The operation, initiated due to a European Investigation Order from Germany, involved executing multiple searches across various locations in Lithuania. During these searches, which were supported by the issuance of an European Arrest Warrant, police apprehended one individual and seized a significant amount of allegedly stolen car parts from luxury brands like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Porsche, and Lexus, including airbags, computers, decorative elements, communication devices, and tools used for the thefts. Notably, officials found a Porsche Macan that appeared to be assembled from stolen parts. This crackdown not only highlights the ongoing issues of car theft and trafficking in Lithuania but also underscores international cooperation in addressing such crimes. With the involvement of international law enforcement agencies and the Lithuanian police, the operation marks a significant blow to organized crime networks focused on luxury vehicles, raising awareness about the vigilance needed against such illegal activities in the country and beyond.
