Attempts to Smuggle Prohibited Items in Three Prisons in One Day - 35 Mobile Phones Found

On March 4, attempts to smuggle mobile phones into three Lithuanian prisons resulted in the discovery of 35 devices.

On March 4, Lithuanian authorities reported multiple attempts to smuggle mobile phones into various prisons. In Alytus prison, a guard observed two individuals attempting to launch a package into the facility using a makeshift cannon. Within that package were discovered 12 mobile phones. This incident highlighted ongoing security challenges within the prison system regarding contraband smuggling.

Simultaneously, in Marijampolė prison, a guard found four packages wrapped in brown tape, containing eight mobile phones and six SIM cards, near the prison fence. This incident further emphasizes the elaborate methods that individuals might use to try and bypass prison security and the continuous efforts by officials to thwart such attempts. These events occurred within hours of each other, indicating a concerted effort by outside parties to breach the prison’s defenses.

Additionally, in Pravieniškės 2 prison, another package was thrown over the prison walls containing four more mobile phones. Just after, officials conducting perimeter checks found three additional packages at various locations around the facility. This series of events underlines the challenge that prison authorities face in maintaining security and preventing the influx of illegal items, which can pose significant risks to both inmates and overall prison management.
