Civil Police carry out operation against homicides and drug trafficking in Petrolina
The Civil Police of Pernambuco launched Operation 'Insanity' to dismantle a criminal organization involved in homicides and drug trafficking in Petrolina and beyond.
On the morning of Thursday, October 5, the Civil Police of Pernambuco initiated operation 'Insanity,' targeting a criminal organization allegedly linked to multiple homicides and drug trafficking operations in Petrolina, located in the Sertão region of Pernambuco. The operation aims to identify and dismantle the organization while ensuring public safety. Law enforcement is also conducting simultaneous operations in Itaquitinga, Recife, and Juazeiro, extending their search to areas in Bahia and Rio de Janeiro, indicating a broader operational scope.
The police executed a total of 19 arrest warrants and 30 search and seizure warrants, underscoring the serious nature of the allegations against this criminal entity. The warrants were issued by the Court of the Jury of the Comarca of Petrolina, highlighting the judicial backing for the operation. The investigative efforts began in November 2025 and have involved collaboration with various police intelligence units, including the Intelligence Directorate of the Civil Police of Pernambuco, as well as partnerships with civil police agencies in Bahia and Rio de Janeiro.
This operation reflects ongoing efforts by Brazilian authorities to confront organized crime, particularly in regions plagued by violence and drug-related issues. By targeting key figures in this criminal network, the police hope to disrupt operations and enhance security in the affected areas. The investigation's duration and the number of agencies involved illustrate the complexity of tackling organized crime in Brazil, where such issues pose significant challenges for law enforcement and community safety.
