Claudilene Aparecida dos Santos dreams of cherishing her twin daughters, Heloísa and Helena, by being able to carry them in her arms and take them for walks after their complicated separation surgeries. The two-year-old twins were born conjoined at the head and are currently undergoing a series of five surgical procedures at the Hospital das Clínicas in Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo. After a challenging start, the family is hopeful that these surgeries will bring them one step closer to normalcy and the joys of everyday life.

The complex separation procedures, recognized for their high level of difficulty, have been in planning for two years. On the last Saturday, the twins underwent the third of five surgeries, attended by a multidisciplinary team of health professionals dedicated to their care. Claudilene recounts how, since their birth, her daughters' condition has made it difficult to hold them, which has intensified her desire for simple interactions like carrying them in her arms.

Originally hailing from São José dos Campos, the family relocated to Ribeirão Preto to be closer to the hospital. After nearly two years of medical care, the continued support from healthcare professionals and the community is paramount for the twins and their family. Claudilene's hopes reflect not only the aspiration for her daughters' recovery and independence but also a deep maternal yearning to engage more closely with her children as they heal and grow together.
