After the pre-wedding shoot, now stopping 'shoe stealing'... Engagements will have 20 guests
The Sen community in Chhattisgarh has implemented strict guidelines for weddings to curb rising costs and family disputes, including a ban on the 'shoe stealing' ritual and limiting engagement meetings to 20 guests.
In Chhattisgarh, social organizations are taking on a regulatory role to address the escalating expenses and familial disputes associated with weddings. After the Sahu community banned pre-wedding shoots, the Sen community has announced several strict rules in Balod district aimed at promoting simplicity and reducing conflict during marriage ceremonies. Among these new regulations is a prohibition on the traditional 'shoe stealing' ceremony, in which the bride's relatives hide the groom's shoes to demand money. Community leaders believe that this practice often leads to arguments and uncomfortable situations between families, prompting them to discourage it.
