Hundreds of Finns in Dubai Demand Action from the State: "We are Disappointed"

Hundreds of Finns in Dubai are demanding urgent action from the Finnish government for evacuation amid rising dissatisfaction over the costs associated with their return.

In Dubai, hundreds of Finnish nationals are calling for swift action from their government due to the rising costs and complications tied to their evacuation from the United Arab Emirates. Nearly 350 individuals are communicating through a WhatsApp group, urging Finnish authorities for immediate assistance. Many express disappointment in the lack of affordable options as they face exorbitant fees for organized repatriation flights.

The Finnish Foreign Ministry announced plans for a flight from Muscat, Oman, to repatriate citizens in the UAE, with seats costing approximately €2,300 each. This creates a significant financial burden for families, as a family of four would incur around €10,000 in costs, making it difficult for many to afford their return home. In contrast, other nationalities, such as Pakistanis and Irish citizens, have been offered free or significantly cheaper options to return.

Finnish citizens stranded in Dubai are stressing the need for their government to take action comparable to neighboring countries that have provided their citizens with more humane solutions, such as free repatriation. This situation highlights not only the immediate challenges they face but also raises questions about government responsibilities in ensuring the safe and economical return of citizens during crises.
