Texas Tech coach tips Adeshina to break NCAA record
Texas Tech coach Wes Kittley has expressed confidence that Nigerian high jumper Temitope Adeshina can break the NCAA high jump record after her impressive performance in the collegiate circuit.
Wes Kittley, the track and field coach at Texas Tech, has praised Nigerian high jumper Temitope Adeshina, forecasting that she could potentially break the NCAA high jump record due to her recent remarkable performances. Adeshina achieved her third consecutive Big 12 indoor high jump title, clearing a height of 1.96 meters, matching the second-best record in Texas Tech's history. This clearance not only earned her the title but also set a new meet record, topping the previous mark of 1.93 meters established in 2016 by Akela Jones.
Adeshina's accomplishment makes her the first woman in Big 12 history to win three indoor high jump titles in a row since Rylee Anderson accomplished this feat in 2021-2023. This significant achievement highlights her consistent improvement and dominance in collegiate high jumping. Despite facing fierce competition, particularly from Kansas State’s Sharie Enoe, who finished second with a height of 1.93 meters, Adeshina’s top clearance solidifies her position as a leading contender in the sport.
Currently, Adeshina holds the highest NCAA women’s high jump mark for 2026 at 1.96 meters, which stands as the fourth-best mark globally. Coach Kittley emphasized that he believes Adeshina is capable of surpassing the 2-meter mark, further positioning her as one of the rising stars in collegiate athletics and a potential record-breaker in the near future.
