The South Korean police are deploying a rapid response team to the Middle East to assist citizens stranded due to military actions in Iran.
The South Korean police are responding to concerns over citizens stranded in the Middle East as a result of escalating military actions involving Iran and Israel. To facilitate the safe return of these citizens, the International Police Cooperation Division announced the dispatch of a government joint rapid response team comprised of six members who will specifically assist in processing exit procedures for Koreans. This team is set to depart on October 6th, with three members heading to Oman and three to Dubai, UAE.
South Korea has proactively established a 'Rapid Response Team for Overseas Citizen Protection' to manage emergency situations abroad, incorporating 156 specialized personnel in seven different fields, including counter-terrorism. During a recent government meeting, Prime Minister Kim Min-seok emphasized the importance of safeguarding nationals abroad and the necessity of comprehensive preparations for emergency evacuations, reinforcing the government's commitment to citizen safety as a top priority.
Currently, approximately 140 South Koreans, including expatriates, have already managed to evacuate to neighboring countries such as Turkmenistan and Egypt, although around 40 embassy staff and citizens remain in Iran. The government's rapid response plan serves not only to facilitate departures but also to ensure ongoing support and safety for those still in volatile regions, showcasing a proactive approach to crisis management and citizen welfare during international unrest.
