Director Jang Hang-jun: 'The million promise' was just a joke... Instead, I'll do this

Director Jang Hang-jun, who jokingly promised to change his name and undergo plastic surgery if his film reaches ten million viewers, has changed his stance and will instead host a coffee truck event for fans.

Director Jang Hang-jun, who made headlines for a lighthearted promise to change his name and get plastic surgery if his film 'The King’s Affection' hit ten million viewers, recently clarified that his comments were made in jest. During an appearance on SBS radio's 'Baesungjae's Ten', he explained that his original statement was meant to elicit laughter rather than be taken seriously. Jang noted that he did not expect his movie to reach such monumental viewer numbers and instead just hoped it would break even financially.

He elaborated that his initial expectation for the film's success was low, with the opening day ticket sales and overall pre-sale rates not promising. As the film approaches the impressive milestone of ten million viewers, Jang emphasized the absurdity of his earlier claim, humorously comparing himself to historical figures like Jesus Christ or Buddha who are often held to an impossible standard. Instead of fulfilling the grandiose promises, he humorously suggested it would be better to make less dramatic pledges.

As a replacement for his previous commitment, Jang announced a coffee truck event for fans, scheduled for December 12 in front of the Seoul Newspaper office in Jongno, Seoul. This gesture is aimed at expressing gratitude to the audience rather than changing his name or appearance. As of now, 'The King’s Affection' has already gathered an impressive audience of nearly ten million, quickly approaching this unexpected success as of the latest count on December 4.
