New CPI in Alesp wants to investigate Master and summons Vorcaro
A new CPI in São Paulo's legislative assembly will investigate the Master Bank's involvement in financial pyramid schemes, starting with the summons of former banker Daniel Vorcaro.
A new Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) focused on Financial Pyramids was established in the São Paulo Legislative Assembly (Alesp) on Wednesday, including investigating the Master Bank. The CPI, led by president Guto Zacarias from the União Brasil party, has initiated proceedings to summon former banker Daniel Vorcaro to provide testimony about the alleged use of financial pyramid schemes in the management of social security funds across various municipalities, including Cajamar, Araras, Santo Antônio de Posse, and Santa Rita d'Oeste, which have invested in Master Bank.
In his request, Zacarias alleges that Vorcaro operated a scheme akin to a financial pyramid through Master Bank and other institutions, suggesting significant financial damages to the involved municipalities. He emphasizes the importance of hearing Vorcaro to gain insights into his role within this purportedly criminal operation, as well as to understand the operational methodology employed. This investigation follows a growing concern regarding the misuse of public funds and the impact of such schemes on local governments.
The establishment of this CPI highlights increased legislative action against fraudulent financial schemes in Brazil. As the investigation unfolds, it could potentially uncover broader implications for regulatory frameworks surrounding financial institutions and the protection of public funds. The outcome may also shed light on the accountability of financial institutions and their influence on local economies, raising pressing questions about governance and oversight in the Brazilian financial sector.
