Salvador enters alert level due to accumulated rainfall
The city of Salvador has moved to an alert level due to over 80 mm of rain recorded in the last three days, with predictions for continued rain.
The Civil Defense of Salvador (Codesal) announced that the city has entered an alert level following strong rainfall recorded on the fourth of the month. In the past 72 hours, Salvador experienced over 80 mm of rain, with expectations for more rain in the coming days. This weather pattern is attributed to the South Atlantic Convergence Zone (ZCAS), coupled with a low-pressure system that has been causing persistent rain in the capital.
During the most recent rainfall period, areas such as Ilha de Bom Jesus dos Passos registered the highest rainfall amount at 174.2 mm, followed by SΓ£o TomΓ© de Paripe in Salvador's suburbs with 144.4 mm. Other neighborhoods, including Vila SabiΓ‘, Monte Serrat, and Vila Naval, also reported substantial rainfall between 121 mm and 128 mm, indicating widespread impacts across the city.
In light of the increased risk for flooding and other potential weather-related hazards, Codesal is advising residents to remain vigilant and to monitor local weather updates. The ongoing rain and government's alert status highlight the need for preparedness among Salvador's residents as heavy rains can lead to significant urban flooding and disruption of daily life.
