The Benedito Leite Library in São Luís is now offering copyright legal services to help local and national creators secure their works.
The Benedito Leite Library, a notable gathering place in São Luís, Brazil, has implemented a new legal service aimed at assisting creators with copyright registration. This service is provided by the Escritório de Direitos Autorais (EDA) and is available from Monday to Friday, from 8:30 AM to 6:30 PM, at the library's location in Praça Deodoro. The initiative is designed to support authors, musicians, artists, and other creators by providing the legal means to prove authorship and protect their works.
The EDA allows for the registration of various types of original works, including music, literature, photographs, and audiovisual scripts. To successfully register a work, individuals must comply with specific requirements based on the type of work being registered. For personal submissions, documentation includes a completed application form, identification proof (RG and CPF), proof of residence, a copy of the work, and payment verification for the Union Guideline Collection (GRU).
This initiative reflects an important step towards fostering creativity and protecting the rights of creators within the Maranhão state and across Brazil. By offering such legal support, the library aims to empower local talents and ensure that their intellectual property is legally recognized and safeguarded, encouraging further cultural development and creativity in the region.
