FEC approves new digital postcode system for faster mail delivery
The Federal Executive Council of Nigeria has approved a new Geographic Information System-enabled digital postcode system to enhance mail delivery efficiency across the country.
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) of Nigeria has introduced a new alphanumeric digital postcode system to improve mail delivery services. The decision was announced by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, via a social media post. This initiative aims to modernize the postal service framework as part of broader goals outlined in the ministry's Strategic Blueprint.
Minister Tijani emphasized that the implementation of the new postcode system is a priority for the Nigerian government, led by President Bola Tinubu. The system is designed to facilitate a more efficient postal service by leveraging Geographic Information System (GIS) technology. The FEC aims to streamline mail sorting and delivery processes, which is crucial for enhancing communication within and outside the nation.
The ministry plans to collaborate closely with the Postmaster General, Tola Odeyemi, and her team to ensure the successful rollout of the new system. This digital initiative reflects Nigeria's commitment to technological advancement and improving infrastructure in the sector, addressing long-standing challenges within the postal service and setting the stage for a more organized and reliable way of managing postal communications across the country.
