Health South-East has reported significant concerns regarding potential class action lawsuits that could impose an additional annual cost of 400-500 million Norwegian kroner. The challenges arise from claims regarding overtime compensation for part-time employees, which the healthcare region has been warned about by its managing director, Terje Rootwelt. This situation is serious enough that it will be discussed at an upcoming board meeting.

The unions involved in the lawsuits include Fagforbundet, which has already initiated legal action against Innlandet Hospital. Furthermore, the Norwegian Nurses' Association announced earlier this year that they would pursue additional legal claims against Sykehuset i Østfold HF and Sykehuset Telemark HF, highlighting a growing trend of legal challenges within the Norwegian healthcare system over overtime pay.

In addition to the fiscal strain posed by the lawsuits, Health South-East anticipates further demands for back pay, the costs of which have not yet been calculated. This complex issue reflects a broader concern in the healthcare sector regarding the workload of part-time employees, who collectively record around 1.2 million hours of overtime annually, underscoring the financial and operational pressures faced by the organization as it navigates these legal challenges.
