A resident of Druskininkai, Lithuania, is facing legal troubles after border guards unearthed a stash of illegal cigarettes from his vehicle and residence. During a search of the man's Opel Zafira, authorities found a hidden compartment containing 1,405 packets of cigarettes bearing Belarusian tax stamps. In addition to the cigarettes, around 5,000 euros in cash was seized, which is suspected to be proceeds from illegal activities. This recent find highlights the ongoing issue of smuggling and the illicit trade of tobacco products in the region.

Following the discovery in the vehicle, border guards conducted further searches at the suspect's home, where they found various types of untaxed cigarettes. The investigation continued with additional searches at a garage in Jurgiškiai village linked to the suspect, where even more illegal cigarettes were uncovered. A witness who frequented the garage was interrogated by the border guards, indicating that authorities are expanding their investigation into the network involved in this illegal trade.
