A section of the Perimetral road remains closed due to an accident
A segment of the right lane on the Perimetral road in Quito is closed following a truck accident early Wednesday morning.
Early Wednesday, March 4, a section of the right lane of the Perimetral road in Quito, near the Metropolitan Pantheon, was closed due to an accident involving a trailer. The crash, which occurred around 4:00 AM, saw the truck lose control, crash into the guardrails, and hit a pole, causing significant damage to the vehicle and necessitating medical attention for the driver. As a result of the closure, traffic was heavily congested, extending back towards the cemetery as vehicles advanced slowly past the scene.
The local authorities, specifically the Transit and Mobility Agency (ATM), were promptly deployed to manage traffic and guide drivers away from the accident site. Cones were set up to isolate the lane where the trailer remained, allowing cranes to efficiently remove both the damaged truck and the pole. This closure aims to ensure safety for both motorists and workers on the scene as recovery efforts are underway.
The accident highlights ongoing traffic safety challenges in the area, particularly regarding heavy vehicles navigating urban roadways. As officials work to clear the scene, the incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers of road travel and the importance of vigilant driving, especially in the early hours when visibility may be lower and road conditions can be unpredictable.
