The fall into the void of the seven students from La Granja in the tragedy of Santander: 'It has been a series of misfortunes'

A tragic incident in Santander resulted in the deaths of five students from La Granja during a cliffside excursion due to dangerous conditions.

In a heartbreaking incident in Santander, seven students from the La Granja vocational training center encountered a tragic deadly accident while on a cliffside excursion. The school's director, Carlos Micó, expressed disbelief at the news that five students, four girls and one boy aged between 19 and 22, fell to their deaths after the ground beneath them gave way. The unfortunate combination of bad weather and high tides contributed to this disaster, described as a 'series of misfortunes'.

According to Micó, the students had just completed their cycle of studies and were on a celebratory trip when the accident occurred. They were trekking in a hazardous area known for its cliffs when the platform collapsed, leading to their fatal plunge. The school community, located in Heras, about 15 kilometers from Santander, is in mourning following the loss of their students, who were reported to have been lively and promising individuals.

One student aged 19 survived the incident and is currently hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of the Marqués de Valdecilla hospital. The details surrounding the accident raise significant concerns about safety protocols for such excursions, especially in natural areas prone to sudden dangers, underscoring the necessity for heightened awareness and preventive measures to protect students engaged in outdoor activities.
