New Bike Sharing System: 22 Rental Bicycles for Gilching
A new bike rental service called 'My Radl' will soon operate in Gilching, Germany, with 22 bicycles and six e-bikes available at three stations.
A new bike rental service is set to launch in Gilching, a municipality in the Starnberg district of Germany, which will feature 22 mechanical bicycles and six e-bikes. This initiative, named 'My Radl', is being operated by the Leipzig-based company Nextbike and is endorsed by the local MVV transportation authority. The service aims to provide convenient transportation options within the region, enhancing mobility for residents and visitors alike.
The bike-sharing system allows users to pick up bicycles from designated stations and return them to any other station within the network. This flexibility is designed to encourage cycling as a viable alternative to driving, thus promoting sustainability and reducing traffic congestion. Anticipated to be operational by this spring, this will mark Gilching as the first municipality in the district to offer such a service, which is expected to expand significantly over the coming years.
Moreover, the long-term goal involves creating approximately 1000 stations equipped with around 6800 bikes across the Starnberg district, with plans to extend to other areas such as Gauting, Herrsching, Seefeld, and Weßling by spring 2027. This development reflects a growing trend in urban areas to provide shared mobility solutions that can enhance urban living and cater to increasing environmental awareness among the public.
