About two tons of meat unfit for consumption seized in operation in the Jequitinhonha Valley
Approximately two tons of meat deemed unfit for consumption were seized during an operation conducted by the Procon of the Public Ministry of Minas Gerais in the Jequitinhonha Valley.
During a recent operation carried out by the Procon of the Public Ministry of Minas Gerais (MPMG), around two tons of meat unfit for human consumption were confiscated in the Jequitinhonha Valley region. The operation took place from February 2 to 6 and involved inspections of 50 establishments, primarily butchers located in Pedra Azul, Cachoeira de PajeΓΊ, and Γguas Vermelhas. Out of these, 35 establishments received citations for various violations related to food safety and hygiene standards.
The MPMG indicated that some of the major violations included the sale of meat from unverified origins, operation of high-risk establishments lacking proper sanitary licenses, and unsatisfactory sanitary conditions. As a result of the inspections, 30 locations had products seized, and 27 establishments faced partial or total closures to protect public health. This operation exemplifies the ongoing efforts by local authorities to ensure food safety and consumer rights in the region.
The implications of this operation are significant for public health in the Jequitinhonha Valley, particularly as it highlights persistent issues with food safety in the area. The findings from the inspections reflect serious risks to consumers, raising questions about the enforcement of health regulations in the food industry. Continued monitoring and enforcement actions will be necessary to prevent similar occurrences in the future and to safeguard the health of the community.
