Evacuation of Estonian Citizens: the first special flight organized from Oman
Estonia is organizing special flights to evacuate its citizens from the Middle East, starting with a flight from Oman.
The Estonian Foreign Ministry is actively working to assist Estonian citizens to leave the Middle East, specifically responding to the ongoing conflict in the region. A crucial development was announced by Deputy Minister Cahkna, who confirmed that a special flight has been organized with the help of a travel partner to repatriate Estonians back to their home country. The Ministry has registered individuals based in Oman or the United Arab Emirates on its 'Reisi Targalt' platform, ensuring they receive timely information regarding the evacuation process.
Each individual will need to cover the cost of the special flight, which is set at 400 euros, in addition to any transfer fees based on their specific location. However, the Estonian government will shoulder other associated costs to facilitate this evacuation, underscoring its commitment to supporting citizens amidst crises abroad. The first flight has a capacity of 180 passengers, with additional flights already being planned to address the needs of more citizens who may require assistance.
The context of this evacuation arises from the prolonged tensions between Iran and Israel, which have led to instability in the Middle East and posed risks for foreign nationals. While Iran and Israel do not share a border, their historical conflicts and struggles for influence in the region have increasingly strained the security environment, making evacuations vital for countries with citizens in affected areas. The involvement of a travel operator like 'Novatours' facilitates the logistics of these flights, aiding the Ministry's efforts in ensuring safe returns for its citizens.
