True earnings of Poles: women's wages catch up to men's earnings

Women's wages in Poland are on the rise, with a recent report showing that their median salary nearly matches that of men's, though men still earn more on average.

As of September 2025, the median monthly salary for women in Poland reached 6956.1 PLN gross, an increase of over 7.3% compared to the previous year. In contrast, men's median salary grew by 7.2% to 7400 PLN gross, which still exceeds women's earnings by 6.4%. These figures come from the latest data released by the Central Statistical Office of Poland (GUS), reflecting changes in the wage distribution within the national economy.

The median figures represent the salary at which half of the employed individuals earn less and half earn more. In September of the previous year, the overall median salary was reported at 7145.33 PLN, showing a year-over-year increase of 6.9%, but a decline of 1.8% from August. Importantly, this median is also 21% lower than the average gross salary within the national economy, indicating that while there are improvements in wage structure, the gap between average and median incomes remains consistent over time.

The report also highlights that the gap tends to grow in the first months of the year when many companies distribute substantial bonuses and premiums, favoring those with higher average salaries. This trend emphasizes the ongoing issues of wage disparity but also suggests signs of progress towards narrowing the gap between male and female earnings in Poland, reflecting broader societal changes in gender wage equity.
