VG: Økokrim confirms they are investigating visa assistance
Norway's Økokrim is investigating potential visa assistance provided to Jeffrey Epstein related to women, including alleged connections with Terje Rød-Larsen, who is under investigation for serious corruption.
The Norwegian economic crime unit, Økokrim, has confirmed that it is looking into visa assistance provided to Jeffrey Epstein on behalf of women. This inquiry arises from various connections that have surfaced, particularly those involving Terje Rød-Larsen, who has been implicated in a broader investigation into serious corruption due to his links with Epstein. Pål Lønseth, the head of Økokrim, emphasized that any reciprocal arrangements involved in granting visa assistance are of significant interest to the investigation.
Terje Rød-Larsen has come under scrutiny following the public revelations stemming from the Epstein files, which detailed his interactions with Epstein and raised questions regarding his role in facilitating the visa process for women associated with the late financier. Rød-Larsen has denied any wrongdoing, claiming that the allegations are unfounded and based on speculation that lacks substantive proof. Notably, Rød-Larsen reportedly wrote a recommendation letter for one woman’s visa application who had previously worked for Epstein and later for his think tank, IPI.
The ongoing investigation highlights larger issues surrounding human trafficking and corruption, particularly in how individuals may create networks that exploit vulnerable individuals seeking opportunities abroad. Økokrim’s commitment to examining these connections indicates a serious approach to tackling corruption that involves international figures, and it may have broader implications for accountability in similar cases involving high-profile individuals.
