Planning continues for the opening of E8 after bankruptcy
Despite the bankruptcy of contractor Bertelsen & Garpestad, work on the E8 road project towards Tromsø is set to continue with a planned opening in summer 2027.
The contractor Bertelsen & Garpestad (B&G) has entered bankruptcy, raising concerns over the progress of the ongoing E8 road project towards Tromsø, Norway. The Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens vegvesen) is actively seeking solutions to ensure that the planned road construction can continue despite this setback. The E8 project, which commenced in April 2022, is deemed crucial for improving transportation infrastructure in the region.
The timeline for the completion of the road has now set an ambitious goal for an opening in the summer of 2027. In an official statement, it has been confirmed that Metrostav will take over the continuation of work on the Ramfjordbrua bridge and other associated structures. This transition in contracting aims to maintain momentum on the project, ensuring that the infrastructural developments remain on track and minimize disruptions caused by the bankruptcy of the previous contractor.
Furthermore, reports highlight that Metrostav will also focus on securing the rest of the construction site following the bankruptcy proceedings of B&G. This indicates a commitment from Statens vegvesen to uphold the safety and continuity of work on this vital transportation link, underlining the importance of infrastructure projects in fostering economic growth and connectivity in Northern Norway.
