Policy on Fake War Videos: Revenue Sharing Will Be Halted If AI Generation Is Not Disclosed

X (formerly Twitter) has announced a policy to suspend revenue sharing for users who post AI-generated war videos without disclosing their nature.

X (formerly Twitter) has implemented a new policy regarding the posting of AI-generated videos related to armed conflicts. According to the platform's product manager, Nikita Bia, if users generate and upload videos that depict war scenarios without making it clear that these are AI creations, the platform will halt revenue sharing for a period of 90 days. This move aims to encourage transparency among users, particularly in sensitive contexts such as warfare, where misinformation might prevail. Continuous violations could lead to an indefinite suspension of revenue sharing for offending users.

The increase in AI-generated content related to military actions has raised concerns, especially amidst heightened tensions in the Middle East following U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran. Many videos that claim to depict bombing incidents have circulated on social media, and X has observed a significant spread of what are believed to be misleading clips. Nikita Bia noted the importance of accessible and accurate information during times of war, stressing that the current capabilities of AI make it easy to produce content that can mislead audiences.

Bia also revealed in a separate post his engagement with an individual believed to be operating 31 accounts in Pakistan, which were responsible for posting AI-generated war footage. This highlights the platform's increased scrutiny on the use of AI in the dissemination of potentially harmful content, emphasizing its commitment to ensuring that users are aware of the origins of the videos they encounter online, especially during conflicts.
