Belgium is requiring a €10 million bail for the release of the detained Russian tanker Ethera, which was found to have violated maritime regulations.
The Russian tanker Ethera was seized in the North Sea on March 1 due to a range of violations uncovered by Belgian authorities. It is part of what is known as Russia's 'shadow fleet', which operates under false flags and documentation. Reports indicate that the Belgian Ministry of the North Sea cited forty-five specific violations, primarily revolving around the use of forged certificates as the ship was operating under a false Guinean flag. Additionally, there were technical deficiencies identified that added to the seriousness of the case.
