A police operation named 'False Lawyer' led by the Department of Cybercrime Repression (DRCC) in Piauí resulted in the arrest of suspects creating fraudulent profiles of lawyers and charging victims for fictitious legal fees. The operation took place on Wednesday, targeting 31 individuals across cities in Ceará, Goiás, and Amazonas, among others. All victims of these scams were from Piauí, where the criminals exploited sensitive information related to ongoing legal processes.

The coordinator of the DRCC, Delegate Humberto Mácola, detailed how the perpetrators utilized social engineering techniques to deceive victims into believing they were interacting with legitimate legal representatives. They established fake WhatsApp profiles to facilitate their scams, further highlighting the vulnerability of individuals navigating complex legal challenges without proper counsel.
