KNAB: The National Alliance must repay 210,673 euros or enforcement will be applied

The National Alliance faces enforcement for failing to repay misused state budget funds amounting to 210,673 euros, following an adverse court ruling by the Supreme Court of Latvia.

The National Alliance (NA) is under pressure from Latvia's Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) to repay 210,673 euros that were unlawfully used from the state budget. If they do not voluntarily repay this amount, the case will be handed over to an enforcement officer to collect the debt. This situation arose after the Supreme Court declined to initiate cassation proceedings regarding a complaint from the NA, making the previous ruling that mandated repayment legally binding.

As per the ruling, the decision advised by the Supreme Court does not alter the payment procedures of state budget financing currently allocated to the National Alliance. This clarification from KNAB indicates that, although the debt remains, the flow of state funding to the political organization will continue for the time being, even as they deal with this financial dispute.

Previously, in a decision made on June 11, 2024, KNAB suspended state budget funding to the National Alliance for a year due to the misappropriation of funds. Consequently, the party will not receive 376,003.6 euros in state financing for the latter half of 2024, marking a significant financial strain on its operations amid these legal and financial challenges.
