The data breach at Telia: About half a million TV and broadband customers affected
Telia has experienced a significant data breach impacting approximately half a million customers, with sensitive personal information exposed.
Telia, a major telecommunications company in Norway, has reported a serious data breach affecting around half a million of its TV and broadband customers. The breach involves the unauthorized access to customer details, including names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, birth dates, and IP addresses. The company has acknowledged that this incident also affects partner customers. To mitigate the risk of data misuse, Telia has implemented security measures in response to the breach.
Bjørn Ivar Moen, the CEO of Telia Norge, described the situation as extremely serious and indicated that the company is mobilizing substantial resources to address the incident. He noted that the breach is more significant than initially thought, highlighting the extensive work required to assess the data that has been compromised. Telia is currently focused on determining the level of sensitivity of the exposed information to better understand the potential implications for affected customers.
Furthermore, investigations have revealed that a large quantity of data has been published on the dark web, which raises additional concerns regarding privacy and security for the impacted individuals. Reports indicate that around 900 current or former customers have had their birth numbers exposed, further emphasizing the critical nature of this breach. Telia is working diligently to analyze the published data to inform its response and prevent misuse of the information.
