Tamil Nadu: Congress-DMK Finalizes Seat Sharing, Know Who Will Contest from How Many Seats

The Congress and DMK have finalized their seat-sharing arrangement for the Tamil Nadu assembly elections, with Congress set to contest from 28 seats after negotiations.

In Tamil Nadu, the Congress and the DMK have concluded the formalities for their electoral alliance ahead of the assembly elections. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge spoke with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Wednesday to finalize the seat-sharing arrangement. After several rounds of discussions, a consensus was reached, with Congress gaining 28 assembly seats, despite initially demanding 35 seats.

The seat-sharing negotiations faced challenges as the DMK was unwilling to allocate more than 25 seats, leading to a standoff between the two parties. However, during a phone call between Kharge and Stalin on the occasion of Holi, they were able to resolve their differences and agree on the final terms. Along with the 28 assembly seats, Congress is also promised one Rajya Sabha seat. This development is crucial for both parties as they prepare for the competitive electoral landscape in Tamil Nadu.

With a total of 234 assembly seats in Tamil Nadu, the finalized deal marks a significant move for Congress, which was determined not to settle for less than 30 seats. The agreement signifies a pivotal moment in the coalition dynamics as both parties seek to maximize their electoral potential against rival factions in the upcoming elections.
