Luxurious Kaunas residential area prepares for flood
The newly developed 'Nemunaičių' residential area in Kaunas is taking precautions against a potential flood, despite earlier predictions suggesting it may not be as severe.
Recent reports indicate that while a flood in the country may not be as devastating as previously forecasted, it is still premature to assert that one will not occur. Consequently, the National Crisis Management Center has advised precautionary measures, including the deployment of sandbags around the newly developed 'Nemunaičių' residential neighborhood on the banks of the Nemunas River to mitigate potential damage. In addition, temporary barriers have been erected in the Vilijampolė area, with large sandbags lined along Brastos street to support the banks of the Neris River, protecting the new residential area there as well.
Last week, it was estimated that around 150 residents in Kaunas could potentially be affected by the flood, highlighting the serious nature of the situation. However, Vilmantas Vitkauskas, head of the National Crisis Management Center, has reassured the public by pointing out some positive signs in the flood situation monitoring. He mentioned that in some areas, water levels are already receding, which is promising and allows for more time to prepare effectively for any ongoing conditions.
The proactive measures by the local authorities, including the installation of barriers and monitoring of water levels, illustrate a community's commitment to safeguard its residents. The situation remains fluid, but with careful management and vigilant observation, residents hope to avoid significant damage from the anticipated flood, should it occur.
