20.1 thousand real estate transactions registered in two months: what Lithuanians bought

In the first two months of the year, Lithuania registered 20.1 thousand real estate transactions, although a slowdown was observed in February.

In the early months of the year, Lithuania's real estate market showed a promising trend with 20.1 thousand transactions registered during January and February combined. However, February saw a market slowdown, with 9.4 thousand transactions recorded, reflecting a 12.2% decline compared to January and a 2.5% decrease from the same month last year. Analysts note that while the start of the year showed strong activity, February's shorter duration and seasonal factors contributed to expectations of a slowdown.

The Real Estate Register reports that the transactions involving apartments revealed a slightly more positive trend, with 5.7 thousand apartment sales recorded in January and February, marking a 6.5% increase compared to the same period last year. Nevertheless, February saw 2.7 thousand apartment transactions, down 6.2% from the previous February and down 13% from January. This indicates a dip in the momentum within the apartment market specifically, contradicting the overall growth seen at the start of the year.

Despite these fluctuations, Paulius Rudzkis, a data analyst at the Real Estate Register, asserts that the overall trends since the start of the year align with previous years and that there are no significant changes currently visible. While the decline in February raises important questions about market dynamics, it may be too early to draw definitive conclusions about the trajectory for the remainder of the year, as real estate sales often fluctuate seasonally and can be influenced by various external factors.
