Italians Blocked in the Gulf, About 2,500 People Return: Airports Become Operational Again

Approximately 2,500 Italians stuck in the Gulf, including students, are starting to return as airports in the region resume operations amidst ongoing missile threats.

The return of Italians stranded in the Gulf region, particularly the United Arab Emirates, has begun with around 2,500 individuals, including 190 students from a study program in Dubai, being repatriated. Despite the dangerous situation with missile and drone activity in the area, many people are managing to return independently on commercial flights as airport operations gradually resume.

Two charter flights organized by Oman Air, in coordination with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, have also been scheduled from Muscat to facilitate the repatriation process. The re-opening of Dubai's airports and the return to operational status of major airlines such as Emirates and Etihad provide a hopeful sign for those who remain stranded. However, tensions in the region remain high, especially following the recent missile strikes on U.S. embassies in Dubai and Riyadh, which may prompt a shift in defense strategies among the affected nations.

As the situation develops, it highlights the challenges faced by citizens abroad during geopolitical conflicts and the importance of government intervention in ensuring their safe return. With commercial flights resuming, there is cautious optimism for the safe passage of those still wishing to leave the area, although the continuing military threats pose significant risks that could complicate further evacuations.
