Italians stuck, the first return flight

Italy is working to repatriate its citizens from crisis-hit Middle Eastern countries, with initial flights already underway for those stranded.

The Italian government is making efforts to repatriate its citizens, with approximately 70,000 Italians currently in the Middle East, many of whom are in the United Arab Emirates. Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani emphasized that these citizens are the government's top priority in the ongoing crisis during a joint session with the Defense and Foreign Affairs committees of the Italian Parliament. While initial operations to return citizens have begun, including a charter flight that transported 127 Italians from Oman to Rome, logistical challenges remain significant.

Minister Tajani revealed that out of the 70,000 Italians in the region, about 30,000 are in the UAE, particularly in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. He has communicated that efforts are underway to organize additional coordinates for ensuring the safe return of these citizens. A special flight was also arranged from Abu Dhabi to bring back 200 Italian minors studying in the UAE, showing an urgency in addressing the needs of vulnerable groups among the stranded nationals.

Despite these actions, the broader logistical challenges of coordinated evacuations persist. The Italian Foreign Ministry has deployed a team of diplomats, Carabinieri, and financial police to assist in the repatriation process, indicating the government's serious commitment to ensure the safety of its citizens amid the escalating Middle Eastern crisis. The situation remains fluid as the government plans further flights and logistical support to assist stranded citizens.
