A drunken man accidentally sets fire to his home in Araxá, Brazil, after falling asleep with a cigarette still lit.
A 43-year-old man in Araxá, Brazil, created a potentially disastrous situation after falling asleep with a lit cigarette in his hand while intoxicated. The incident occurred in the Domingos Zema neighborhood during the early hours of Tuesday, September 3. Firefighting officials reported that the man was found outside his property and exhibited no injuries, showcasing the fortunate nature of the situation despite the fire's presence.
According to the information shared by the firefighter team, the man admitted to drinking heavily that night and fell asleep with the cigarette still burning. Upon waking up, he found that part of his mattress was on fire, prompting him to escape from the building. Fortunately, the fire had mostly extinguished itself by the time the firefighters arrived, leading them to confirm the situation was not as critical as it could have been. The fire did, however, cause significant damage by destroying a single bed, mattress, some furniture, a television set, and clothing, as well as causing partial damage to the room's ceiling and wiring.
